How do I choose my first AI project?
Choose a repetitive task you understand, a user you can talk to, and an output you can evaluate. Avoid projects that require the model to be correct when mistakes could harm someone.
Use a narrow workflow
Good first projects summarize known material, organize inputs, draft alternatives, or classify low-risk information. Keep a human in the loop and define what a useful output looks like before choosing a model.
Build an evaluation set
Collect ten to twenty representative examples before changing prompts or tools. Score outputs against the same criteria so improvement means more than ‘this one looks better.’
Name the limits
Explain where the system fails, what data it uses, and when a person must review the output. Responsible boundaries make a small project more credible.
